Job Description
General Purpose of the Job:
Provide R&D and sustaining engineering support within the Electrical Aerospace Ground Equipment (EAGE) section. Responsible for the design, development and sustaining support of high performance Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE), systems, assemblies and associated interconnect cabling to test and support satellite assembly, integration, test and launch.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Complete design, development and sustaining engineering support for assigned projects using Internal, NASA, Military and Industry standards.
Researches new and advanced engineering projects and systems.
Provides technical inputs for Capital Equipment Request development.
Develops technical proposals, specifications and procedures.
Acts as a mentor to junior engineers.
Performs research, evaluations, and feasibility studies culminating in advanced technology, theories and concepts that advance the performance, reliability and usability of EAGE supplied systems.
Provides technical consultations with other researchers and engineers as well as customers and vendors.
Produces console specifications and test philosophies based on customer and program inputs.
Assesses and diagnoses technical problems relating to EAGE designs.
Interfaces extensively with customers, program office, and test engineers
Provides guidance toward the disposition of major Hardware problem reports relating to EAGE items
Familiar with all major communication interfaces and protocols such as RS232, RS422, Rs485, 1553, Spacewire, LAN etc.
Assesses measurement requirements on programs, and defines measurement testing
Excellent writing and verbal skills.
Must be fluent in PWB schematic creation, capture, analysis and layout.
Knowledge of materials, components and processes for items used in a Simulated Space Environment (TV).
Knowledgeable in the use of embedded controllers and communication buses such as I2C.
Must be capable of creating initial conceptual mechanical designs and layouts of new assemblies, cables and consoles.
Must read, understand and follow Maxar Quality Policies and ISO9000 directives.
Fluent in at least one programming language that supports automated test equipment control such as Python.
Proficiency with RF component, subsystem and system design from DC-67 GHz highly desired.
Willing to work weekends, holidays and off shifts when necessary to support critical spacecraft test operations.
Willing and able to travel to support off-site activities domestic and foreign.
Active USG security clearance desirable..
Job Requirements
Minimum Skills and Years of Experience Required to Perform the Above:
Leadership skills and self-directed. Must be able to obtain results in an environment of ambiguity.
Highly proficient with electronic measurement tools including power supplies, oscilloscopes, DMM and signal generators. Working knowledge of RF network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power meters and other analysis tools desired.
Proficient with Microsoft OS based instrumentation controllers, their configuration and operation.
Proficient with commonly used PC computer programs namely MS Office Suite. MS Project.
Minimum Education or Equivalency:
B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics or equivalent. M.S. preferred.
Preferred Experience:
12 years’ designing, developing and supporting complex automated test systems. 10 years for M.S. and 8 yrs for Ph. D.
