Job Description

We are looking for a Financial Analyst to work within our Finance Operations. This position will support multiple organizations, for whom they will manage and oversee day-to-day financial planning processes, including annual planning, monthly reporting and key business. The Finance Operations team works closely with the CFO and senior executives to plan the business and allocate budget and resources to the company's satellite programs and other strategic R&D initiatives.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with department managers to oversee all spend, including cost of sales, operating expenses and capital expenditures
  • Perform monthly variance analysis for these costs, using this analysis to identify risk and opportunities
  • Review and approve purchase requests and Capital Expenditure Requests (CERs). Validate CERs versus budgets and escalate with facts as needed. Track monthly spend against forecasts highlighting issues. Help department manage trade-offs to keep spend within budget
  • Build knowledge of SSL's business, to become key financial business partner to SSL organizations. Translate and interpret financial data into operational recommendations to improve and accelerate the business
  • Lead monthly reviews of operating expenses, capital expenditures and headcount for departments, gathering information to create increasingly accurate forecasts of costs for these groups
  • Support SSL's Annual Operating Plan (AOP) processes and quarterly financial cycle
  • Provide ad hoc financial modeling and financial analysis
  • Support special projects and process improvements within Finance

Job Requirements

Requirements
  • BS in Finance/Accounting/Economics, MBA or CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of overall experience, with at least 2 years in a Financial Analyst role
  • Superior analytical skills, combined with excellent business judgment and strong ability to clearly and concisely communicate with management level personnel
  • Very strong skills with Excel and other MS office applications
  • Experience with Oracle and Anaplan a plus
  • Active team player and works well under pressure
  • Organized, detail oriented individual with ability to multi-task and maintain accuracy of information
  • Integrity with confidential information
  • Creativity in solving complex problems
  • Ability to work independently in support of team objectives
