Our cool client in Long Beach is seeking a Commodities Specialist. Purchasing the equipment, supplies, and services necessary to support a small satellite launch program. As such, a background in aerospace is quite advantageous, although not essential. This role will be key in implementing new supply chain related procedures and MRP/ERP software systems.

  • Award Purchase Orders for Materials/Parts as required
  • Identify and develop qualified suppliers
  • Collect and catalogue paperwork as needed to on-board new suppliers
  • Monitor and coordinate expediting activity
  • Follow up with suppliers on delivery schedules and communicate information to appropriate internal customers
  • Advise and represent in negotiations with vendors
  • Analyse reports to obtain current information concerning all phases of procurement to control budget, procurement objectives, and effective procurement techniques
  • Monitor quantity and quality of work in assigned group, review buying activity, collaborate with buyers and provide feedback to same; identify problem areas and recommend/discuss solutions with the Purchasing Manager
  • Maintain records in accordance with established policies and procedures and audit guidelines

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent purchasing experience
  • 5+ years working closely with Procurement, Production and Production Planning managers, as well as with the Engineering team, to determine current and future purchasing needs
  • Possess an established track record of procuring complex systems and structures, especially within an aviation or manufacturing setting
  • Evaluate procurement bids in accordance with established criteria
  • Assess contract compliance and product/service quality
  • Knowledge of internal and external auditing
  • Experience and strong computer skills using MS Office Suite and various MRP/ERP systems
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
  • Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement
