Performance Profile
Research and develop processes for the MOCVD growth of III/V semiconductor photovoltaic devices from the concept phase to the manufacturing phase
Write growth recipes and develop understanding of growth reactor functionality. Help troubleshoot reactor issues and growth-related device issues including hands-on work in a clean-room.
Design experiments, demonstrate engineering rigor and use of the scientific method in all activities. Use modeling and simulation tools to guide experiments and understand results
Develop a detailed understanding of the design, construction, manufacturing methods, and operating principles of series interconnected multi-junction solar cells
Develop a detailed understanding of the relationship between growth process, materials properties, device design, and device performance
Utilize an understanding of solid state and device physics, device processing, and test/measurement
Analyze and interpret test data utilizing tools such as Excel and JMP, correlate device performance to structure/design/process features, and confidently present thoughtful and correct analysis to team members
Interact with other engineers in areas of design, growth, fabrication, and test to facilitate growth and device optimization
Interact with outside vendors to develop tools and equipment for growth of the devices
Assist with the transition of new technologies/processes into a manufacturing environment
Report results both internally and externally with presentations and formal reports utilizing tools such as PPT and Office
Develop strong working relationships across the organization
Develop a detailed understanding of the customer base and design requirements for space and terrestrial solar cells
Develop the tools and experience needed to take ownership of projects and provide technical leadership for the organization

Qualifications and Credentials
The ideal candidate has an MS/PhD degree in materials science, electrical engineering, or physics, experience in solar cell device/product development, a strong background in common III-V (Arsenide & Phosphide) semiconductor growth and materials characterization, experience with solar cell device design/theory, experience in a production oriented manufacturing facility.
Lower degrees considered with appropriate experience and qualifications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to work in a team environment
Experience with fabrication and/or testing of optoelectronic devices is a plus
